Indicative values, autumn 2026: great circle distance, typical cruise speed plus an allowance for taxi, climb and descent, no wind. Costs use the hourly bands of each class before VAT, without positioning, fees or taxes. Not an offer.

How the planner calculates

The distance is the great circle between the two airports, the shortest path over the globe. For each class we divide it by a typical cruise speed and add an allowance for taxiing, climbing and descending. Real flights follow airways, meet headwinds and tailwinds and sometimes wait for a slot, so treat the times as a good first estimate.

The nonstop column compares the distance with the range of the aircraft in each class, less a margin for winds and reserves. When the column says longer range types, only the best performers of that class make it without a stop. Runways matter too: when one of the two airports has a runway shorter than the class usually needs, the planner says so.

What the cost column means

We multiply the flight time by the indicative hourly band of each class for autumn 2026. That gives the core of a quote for a one way flight. A real quote adds positioning, landing and handling fees, crew costs if the aircraft waits, catering, de-icing in winter and taxes. Our Quote Decoder shows how those lines add up.

Using the result

Start with the smallest class that fits your group and flies the route nonstop. For flights of more than about two and a half hours, a stand-up cabin and an enclosed lavatory usually earn their extra cost. Then ask operators for quotes on that class and compare like with like.

Questions

Why does the planner not show the price of a return trip?

Because the price of a return depends on how long you stay. A same day return keeps the aircraft and crew with you, a return after several days may send the aircraft home and back. Our Quote Decoder shows both cases, and the article on one way and round trip pricing explains the logic.

How accurate are the flight times?

For most routes within about fifteen minutes of a typical block time in calm weather. Strong winds on long routes, airway routings and departure procedures can move the real time in either direction, so operators always calculate the flight for the day.
